It’s hard to believe that after announcing the ‘End of Austerity’ the Chancellor would put forward a budget that does nothing to repair the damage done over the past eight years. A Budget that doesn’t help repair the damage done to our schools, NHS, police, local government services or those who have lost their jobs but in fact promises to make the situation even worse.
Yet at the same time promises to give some of the most privileged in our society, a tax cut. I support wholeheartedly bringing the lowest paid workers out of paying tax. But to hand-cuff it to a tax cut for the well-off such as MP’s themselves is a slap in the face of ordinary people.
Budgets are about priorities – it’s clear that the motives of the Chancellor and the Prime Minister are not to support those who need it the most. To properly fund our public services or work towards a more equal society. It is to give those who need it the least, a tax cut.
