In collaboration with my colleague Ruth Smeeth MP we have today sent the following letter to Marcus Warnes at Stoke-on-Trent clinical commissioning group.

Despite the protests of local elected officials and the incredible leadership and hard work of local campaigners such as Janet Smith and Irene Sutton we’ve already lost hundreds of beds in our community hospitals. As Janet and Irene have so eloquently said before, our community beds and community hospitals are a pivotal part of delivering safe health care services in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire as a whole.

As the CCG today puts forward its Pre-Consultation Business Case on the future of community services. We hope that the CCG will be more forthright and engaging with key stakeholders. To start to rebuild trust between patients, campaigners and the CCG so that local people can have faith that decision makers are taking their concerns under proper consideration and delivering the best quality local health services locally. That is the minimum we should expect of those who are making such important decisions and what we will continue to press for.
