Today is polling day for the European Parliament.

For as long as we have MEPs, it is important that we have ones who understand our region and realise that being a voice for the West Midlands in Brussels is about working to make our region the best it can be.

MEPs won’t determine what happens next on Brexit, that is for MPs in Westminster and we have to do a better job than we have been doing so far.

So when you go and vote today, don’t cast your vote as a show of anger or protest one way or another, but think about the values we want to send into Europe and the vote for the MEPs who will use whatever time they have to work for our region.

I voted Labour today – not because of Brexit deals, a second referendum, a customs union or anything else.

I voted Labour today because I want MEPs who place fairness and equality above all else; who understand that cities like Stoke-on-Trent deserve to be heard and respected; who know that austerity and continuing cuts to public services don’t help those most in need.

The Labour Party have some truly excellent candidates and I sincerely hope that we are able to re-elect SiĆ“n Simon and Neena Gill MEP as voices for our region and, of course, Stoke-on-Trent’s own Sam Hennessy.

Please Vote Labour Today and ensure the West Midlands has the MEPs it needs and deserves.
