The Committee for Climate Change’s recently released a report called Net Zero. It recommends that the United Kingdom alter its climate change target to aim for net-zero greenhouse gases by 2050.
The report also recommended as part of its plan the afforestation of 30,000 hectares of land per year, increasing the coverage of forest in the UK from 13% to 17% by 2050. To help us reach that objective, I have signed Early Day Motion (EDM) 2495, which aims to provide greater protection to existing hedgerows and mature trees. Whilst this may only be a small step, it is one of many we must take if we are to limit the damage that will be caused by climate change.
